In my second year at OCAD my illustration prof, and subsequent thesis instructor, Gary Taxali, assigned illustrator profile projects to the class. He hand-picked a list of illustrators and the one he chose for me was Christoph Niemann. I was immediately drawn to the graphic simplicity of his work along with his witty sense of humour.
His style of communication translates well to editorial illustration and it was something that I needed to look up to at the time.
Along with numerous New Yorker covers, five published books, Niemann also has a blog on the New York Times website. Although its only updated every few months, its a nice supplement to his other illustration work and acts like a visual diary to what goes on inside of his head. Visit his blog here: Abstrat City Blog
